Met Office National Meteorological Library and Archive

The National Meteorological Archive holds the physical i.e. paper meteorological records created by the Met Office from its foundation in 1854 and also manages and cares for the archives of the Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS). The data covers England and Wales, and locations originally forming part of the British Empire and/or Commonwealth. All meteorological elements are included and the archives encompass autographic records and tabulated data in various forms. Data includes terrestrial, marine and upper air. Note data for Scotland is held at National Records of Scotland (NRS) and data for Northern Ireland is held at the Public Records Office Nothern Ireland (PRONI)

In addition the archive houses a significant Private Weather Diary collection which extends the meterological record to the 1700s, an extensive rare book collection, and published data and charts from many other WMO members.
